Finding Light in the Dark

Verse 1 Born in ’81, in a world so dark and cold, I asked if the food I ate was poison, would it take hold? Questions in my mind, was I a boy or a girl? Picked on at school, I felt my sanity unfurl. In ’90 met a friend, a light in my broken night, By ’96 we’d find a church, searching for the light. Chorus Through the trials and the pain, I’d stumble and I’d fall, But God’s grace was there to catch me when I’d call. From the darkness and the doubt, to the hope I find anew, I’m still searching for the strength to see it through. Verse 2 In ‘97 I reached for the end, felt I’d lost my fight, But my friend took me to church, and prayers turned my night. The Reverend’s voice was strong, cast those devils out with might, I felt the Holy Ghost, but the joy didn’t hold tight. In January ’98, I received the Spirit’s breath, But soon I lost that flame, haunted by my own death. Bridge August ’99, God healed my troubled mind, Got my GED, in the future, hope I’d find. College came in time, and I graduated bright, Got my license in ‘06, I’d learned to take flight. Testified five times, the world heard my tale, But I still struggled hard, in jobs and love I’d fail.
