(Verse 1) Cable news is blaring, another shouting match Red team versus blue team, a never-ending catch Talking points and soundbites, facts get lost in the fray Meanwhile, at the dinner table, tempers start to fray (Chorus) Uncle Jim's a "fiscal hawk," hates taxes to the core Aunt Sue wants better schools, can't take it anymore They yell about entitlements, the other side's a cheat But deep down, if they listened, their wants might just meet (Verse 2) They both want better roads, healthcare that won't break the bank A safe community, a chance for their kids to thank But the politicians promise, the moon and all the stars While ignoring common ground, leaving deep, emotional scars (Chorus) 'Cause Jim just wants his money, to go a little further And Sue wants teachers paid, not overworked and burdened They rant about the border, the other side's a fool But both just want security, a life that's safe and cool (Bridge) Stuck between two sides, both promising the sun But leaving out the details, of how it all gets done Weaving tales of enemies, a constant state of fear Drowning out the voices, that would make things crystal clear (Chorus) Maybe it's not red versus blue, maybe it's a different fight For candidates that listen, and actually do what's right Let's ditch the labels, the party lines, the us versus them Focus on the issues, where common ground can stem (Outro) So next time the TV's screaming, and tempers start to flare Let's hold our politicians accountable, for the burdens that they share Because maybe, just maybe, beneath the partisan haze We all want the same things, for a brighter, better daze
