Ballad of the OS Wars

A sad and gritty war song, sang by a middle aged man

Lyrics

(Verse 1) In the twilight of the OS wars, on a blood-soaked field, A soldier stood, weary and torn, his fate sealed. His armor bore no allegiance, no emblem to declare, For he was a freedom fighter, a soul laid bare. While Linux warriors chanted commands, fierce and true, Windows’ empire of destruction echoed powerful and blue. (Verse 2) MacOS knights, clad in sleek silver, fought with grace, Their swords forged from brushed aluminum, leaving no trace, mercy begone. BSD monks whispered ancient spells, their beards long, And Haiku poets sang verses, lost in a nostalgic song. (Verse 3) TempleOS troopers danced in pixelated ecstasy, Their screens ablaze with holy code, a digital liturgy. Android tribes swarmed like ants, devices in hand, Their battle cries drowned out by the cacophony of the land. (Chorus) But oh, the soldier wept, for he had no allegiance, Just a longing for a simple machine, free from pretense. He wished for a computer, any OS would do, To write, create, and connect—wasn't that the dream pursued? (Verse 4) Regrets haunted him—the wasted years of strife, When he could've embraced them all, shared in life. For pride and hate fueled the fanboys' rage, And now the world lay broken, a digital wasteland stage. When he could've embraced them all, shared in life. For pride and hate fueled the fanboys' rage, And now the world lay broken, a digital wasteland stage. (Verse 5) Windows had promised stability, but it crashed and burned, Linux offered freedom, yet its complexities churned. MacOS dazzled with elegance, but locked gates tight, And BSD whispered secrets, lost in the endless night. (Verse 6) Haiku sang of simplicity, a haiku of an OS, While TempleOS danced with God, in a divine process. Android sprawled like a sprawling city, fragmented and vast, Each app a skyscraper, lost souls wandering fast. (Bridge) The battlefield trembled, binary winds howling, Bits and bytes clashed, a symphony of brawling. And the soldier, bleeding, whispered to the void, "Give me a computer," he cried, "and let the wars die." (Verse 7) The OS fanboys fell, their banners tattered and torn, Their code forgotten, their legacy worn. The soldier sank to his knees, eyes to the sky, "Was it worth it? All this hatred we've deployed?" "Give me a computer," he cried, "and let the wars die." (Verse 7) The OS fanboys fell, their banners tattered and torn, Their code forgotten, their legacy worn. The soldier sank to his knees, eyes to the sky, "Was it worth it? All this hatred we've deployed?" The world lay shattered, pixels fading into dust, As the soldier closed his eyes, his heart filled with trust. Perhaps in another life, they'd choose differently, And build bridges instead of walls, embracing unity. And so, the OS wars ended, not with a bang but a sigh, A requiem for lost potential, as the soldier said goodbye.
