Syntyvyys on laskenut Suomessa lähes kolmanneksella reilussa kymmenessä vuodessa. Jo puolet 35 -vuotiaista miehistä ja 35 prosenttia samanikäisistä naisista on lapsettomia.
– Suomessa syntyvyyden lasku on jyrkempää kuin missään muualla Euroopassa, kertoo väestötieteen professori Marika Jalovaara Turun yliopistosta.
Lapsettomista vain 13 prosenttia on sitä omasta tahdostaan. Syitä lapsettomuuteen on monia: parisuhteiden lyhyt kesto, psyykkinen pahoinvointi, liika lykkääntyminen tai esimerkiksi työttömyys.
