The Bucket Bandit

I'm known 'round here as a joker, a man with too much time Woke up one sunny morning with a brand new kind of crime My hands were itchin', my feet were twitchin' for a little bit of thrill I saw it settin' there so lonesome, and I knew I had my fill Now folks might think it's silly, to snatch an empty pail But I see it as a trophy, a treasure hunt without fail Well, it started as a lark, just a funny little jest An empty pail was in my sights, I snagged it like a quest The town may say it's strange, I took that bucket clear But when I tell 'em why, they laugh and buy another beer [Chorus] An empty bucket in my hand, I must confess I swiped it from the neighbor's porch, left 'em quite a mess But like every good tale that gets told in these parts The bucket became legend, a symbol of my arts Each day I'd take another, until I had a stack The town, they found it funny, bringin' their own buckets back [Verse 3] So now I'm the bucket bandit, with a porch that's filled with fame You might think it's a hoot, just a silly little game But as the sun sets down and the stars come out to gleam I hear a knockin' sound – it's the whole dang town, it seems They're lined up with their pails, a colorful parade And every single one's a friend that bucket thievin' made Now each year we hold a party, with buckets hung in trees We fill 'em up with memories, and laugh until we wheeze With my loot in tow, I'm a local jest They call me the king, the Bucketfest best I line 'em up like soldiers, on the front porch row While the town chuckles softly at the bucket show [Chorus] I'm that bucket stealin' renegade, with a heart of gold In a strange sort of way, these trophies never get old
