The Cross

[verse] When I looked at all the people standing there, what did they see? I did not understand. Then from a distance, I saw him, A figure of a man, stumbling toward us, with a cross upon his back. [verse] When I saw him, it was hard to look upon him though badly beat he looked as gentle as a lamb. What did he do to deserve this? I could not understand as I watched they drove the nails into his hands. [Chorus] Who is this man? why did he suffer all this loss? What did he do? And what was the cost? What did he do to deserve this? I did not understand, as I watched they drove nails into his hands. [Verse] When I gazed upon that crowd Confusion filled my mind Their eyes fixed upon a man But what did they find? From afar I saw him Stumbling in pain Bearing a cross upon his back His sufferings so plain [Verse 2] As I looked upon his face Both broken and kind I couldn't comprehend His gentle soul maligned What could he have done to deserve such agony? I stood there in disbelief As they pierced his hands cruelly [end]
