Time in the sun is a precious thing You’ve had yours now he wants his But he can’t have it, can he? Not unless he chairs the board, writes the chèque or takes the call Shadows are tall and long Especially if he’s your son He didn’t know what else to do so he just kept doing (more) Hoping you would love him (more) He’s just hoping you will love him Still Being a lawyer at the right firm Marrying and having kids with the right woman He’s rather unremarkable But he’s trying to make his mark He’s been taught to be like you Do as you do Think as you do But he doesn’t cut it, does he Not like you do… He’s been taught to be like you (Shadows are tall and long) Do as you do (Especially if he’s your son’ Think as you do (He didn’t know what else to do) But he doesn’t cut it, does he (So he just kept doing more) Not like you do (love him more) Time in the race, it's a relentless pace You've paved the way He's in your space But he can't own it, can he? Unless he's at the top, breaks the mold or makes the grade Shadows can hide the fear
