Lyrics

Verse 1 In 1920, a year long ago, They had Prohibition, but women stole the show. We secured the vote, made history that day, When the 19th Amendment paved our way. But not all women were given that right, Some voices were silenced, out of sight. Anti-suffragists said, "They don't need to vote, They're too busy at home, keeping life afloat." Chorus Oh, those men couldn't cook for themselves, it's true, These poor fellows, what were they to do? While flapper girls danced, with flair and grace, Ignoring the scandal, with smiles on their face. Verse 2 Lucy Stone and Susan B. too, Matilda and Abby, they fought for you. Sojourner Truth, she stood so tall, For the rights of women, she gave her all. But still, some man wants his dinner hot, So his wife must stay in that one spot. "Cooking's a lady's job," he'd say, While he smokes his cigar, wasting the day. Speaking Part (Spoken) Thanks to those ladies, we got our rights, But still, some fellows want us out of sight. "Stay in the kitchen, that's where you belong," (OH NO) That poor man would starve before long! Verse 3 He says, "Keep the house tidy, make it spick and span, 'Cause a clean home is the pride of a man." But don’t ask him to sweep or dust the floor, He’s far too busy behind that closed door. And when dinner’s late, he starts to moan, As if he’s helpless and can’t use a phone! "How can I survive without my roast?" While she’s doing ten things, he just loves to boast. Chorus Oh, those men couldn't cook for themselves, it's true, These poor fellows, what were they to do? While flapper girls danced, with flair and grace, Ignoring the scandal, with smiles on their face. Verse 4 "Don’t drive the car, it’s a man’s machine, You just stay home, and keep things clean." But when the car stalls or gets a flat, Guess who’s the one fixing that? "Don’t worry, honey, I’ll handle the bills," But he can’t find his shoes, or take his pills! He needs her to manage his whole life plan, Yet he still thinks he’s the ‘man of the clan.’ Outro So here's to the women who paved the way, And to those men, well, what can we say? You belong in the kitchen, they’d declare, But we’re out in the world, and we’re everywhere! So when they say, "Stay home, make me a meal," We just laugh, 'cause we know the real deal!
