Echoes of the Street

Take a stroll down the street And make a mental picture of what we see; Where has the world come to? The mess we’re subjecting our children to; Shouldn’t they be in school? Taking lesson our teachers gave us too; Their dress code is that of prostitutes But who’s gonna teach them decency for a substitute? Parental neglect Which the government fails to check Is what our children now reflect; Though times may be tough There’s no reason for us to stop Providing for all they need In order for them in future succeed; Where came this nasty fashion With girls tits and butt showing Like we live in the devil’s creation; This is all temptation for guys who can’t resist And a good bait for the rapist to seize; It’s all a shame But who’s to blame?; Everyday we see them do drugs But turn blind eye when they commit fraud; It is no time for the blame game It’s time to bring about change; The street is not for us (voices of many children) Take us from there, we ask But who will listen to us We’re waiting, just beckon to us Ready to show you care for us Don’t you cry When you see the children look trash? Children living like grown-ups Acting like fuck-ups; Hunger and disease is all I see in their faces And their numbers is just amazing; Politicians, when you drive on the streets Spotting all dem flashy fleets; Do your conscience make you feel guilty? I know you’re all fucking greedy; Where is your love to want to pass them a loaf When it takes just a little to fill one hungry mouth; When will you stop stealing And let the children stop wailing?; Posterity will judge us If we’re don’t take care of the situation before us; No more street children, at long last Street vending, a thing of the past; Don’t ask why I am in tears Have you been blind all these years? And can’t see all the children living in fears Take a bold stand And lend a hand; A dollar or a dime Whatever, we understand; The children are crying So anything is worth trying;
